Would Israel’s Identity have Disappeared if…

Would

Israel’s Identity

Have Disappeared

If the Jews Had Turned to Yeshua

2000 Years Ago?

This paper is written for the sake of a man who witnessed the near erasure of Jewish identity during the seventy-year Communist period in Russia. He realized the profound effect seventy years of oppression and suppression of Jewishness had, and related this to two thousand years of Christianity.

The first part of this paper will show distinctions between two forms of ‘Christianity’, while the second part will address the identity issues.

Christianities

The Distinction Between Christians and Christians

Christianity is applied to many religions. One can become a Christian and be a real enemy to Israel, or be Israel’s true friend. Both perspectives can be justified using the Bible, and been used to treat the Jews with the contempt and destructions or to save them from enemies. How can Christianity hold both theologies?

True Christianity does not hold both theologies. Irreconcilable religions are found under the umbrella of ‘Christianity’. One form was born from the womb of anti-Jewish fervour, its advocates desiring to control. (I will refer to this form as Power Christianity.) Another was born with the totally Jewish and Messianic mandate to teach all races the righteousness, justice, faith, commandments, and truths of the God of Israel. (I will call this Service Christianity.) Power Christianity quickly solidified ranking its members. Service Christianity suffered, many died, and ranking was not an issue.

Both were identified as coming from the same beliefs and Jewish roots, and outsiders often did not understand the difference. Power Christianity became identified with Rome. Service Christianity was part of and identified with Israel, with non-Jewish participants being likeminded. Jewish folks not part of Service Christianity had greatly varied views on it, some seeing it as a true friend, others seeing it as a threat.

The following texts expose distinctions between the two categories:

1 Corinthians 9:18 What is my reward then? That, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of the Messiah without charge that I abuse not my power in the gospel. For though I be free from all, yet have I made myself servant unto all that I might gain the more.

2 Corinthians 4:1 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not. But we have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost (in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them who believe not lest the light of the glorious gospel of the Messiah, Who is the image of God, should shine unto them). For we preach not ourselves, but Messiah Yeshua the Lord and ourselves your servants for Yeshua’s sake.

Philippians 1:15 Some indeed preach the Messiah even of envy and strife, and some also of good will. The one preach the Messiah of contention–not sincerely–supposing to add affliction to my bonds, but the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel. What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, the Messiah is preached. And I therein do rejoice. Indeed and I will rejoice!

Power Christianity quickly outnumbered and outweighed Service Christianity, adding contempt and hatred for Service Christians. Power Christians were nearly all Gentiles. Service Christians were mainly Jews at the beginning, and later were a mixture that always strongly identified with Israel. During a revolt against Roman military occupation of Israel, Service Christians refused to acknowledge that Bar Kochba, the rebellion’s leader, as the messiah, and they refused to fight in the battle. They had been prepared to fight, but not under a false messiah. This resulted in a great offense and split between the two Jewish groups that have lasted to our time. Before that time, Jewish Service Christians were accepted as a normal part of Israel, and represented a significant number.

Power Christians persecuted Jewish and non-Jewish Service Christians, and some fervent Israelis who did not believe that Yeshua was the Messiah persecuted Jewish Believers. The number of Service Christians was always small. Power Christians grew in numbers and political strength until the Roman Empire adopted Power Christianity. Roman Catholicism, the new old religion, became the state religion. Catholic means universal. Power Christians declared themselves to be The Universal Church of Jesus Christ established directly from the apostles of Jesus.

Christianity Today

Most of today’s Christianity, including Catholic, Greek Orthodox, Russian Orthodox, Eastern Orthodox and Protestant (Baptist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Anglican, Methodist, Charismatic, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormon, Church of Christ) are variants of Power Christianity. Some of these groups (not all!) have very few or no Service Christians among them.

Service Christians believe the Jewish Scriptures, fear Yehovah the God of Israel, delight in the plan of Yehovah through Messiah Yeshua and look for Israel’s redemption, having a real sense of pain for the sufferings and unbelief of Israel (the Jewish People), and look for Messiah’s coming. They delight in righteousness, justice, Grace, selflessness, and in every good work and benefit for Israel. They are rare among Jews and non-Jews.

Some Power Christian groups claim to be for Israel, while teaching doctrines excluding Israel from the center of God’s Scripturally described plan. They place themselves as the pupil of God’s eye, applying texts written about Israel to them. They see themselves as being the end times generation through which great revival will come. Power Christianity always carries a greatly inflated ego and self-worth.

Jewish Identities

Israel’s Identity Preserved

Yehovah miraculously created Israel. Abraham’s wife was barren and very old. She had no equipment for having a child. Yehovah miraculously made her fertile and created in her the necessary equipment to have a baby.

Israel in Egypt

Jacob went to Egypt with seventy folks. Jacob’s offspring lived in Egypt for 430 years. This is plenty of time for the Israelis to acculturate. How was it that the Israelis maintained a separate identity? Many of the seventy were not from Jacob’s blood, but all became part of the People of Israel. These various cultures should have been diluted into oblivion, but Yehovah made sure this didn’t happen.

Psalm 105:23 Israel also came into Egypt and Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham. And He increased His people greatly and made them stronger than their enemies. He turned their heart to hate His people, to deal subtly with His servants. He sent Moses His servant, Aaron whom he had chosen. They showed His signs among them and wonders in the land of Ham. He sent darkness and made it dark. And they rebelled not against his word.

Israel in the Desert

When Yehovah took Israel out of Egypt, He brought him to the land of Promise. The Israelis hearkened to ten spies who told them what they already believed, and Yehovah made them remain in the desert for forty years. Israel was kept segregated from the other races that in turn were terrified of Israel.

Israel’s Entry into the Land

Israel entered the Land of Promise, and began to obey the Commandment to annihilate the occupants, but did not continue. The Israelis intermarried and became neighbours. Yehovah sent these neighbours to trouble and conquer Israel. Israel shouted to Yehovah for rescue, and then went after their enemies’ false gods.

Yehovah gave Israel a human king, but no matter how much the Israelis desired to become part of the neighbouring cultures, Yehovah refused to allow this.

The Kingdom of Israel

Yehovah took Israel out of Egypt and made him into a kingdom. He was Israel’s king. Israel later desired a human king to be like his neighbours. Yehovah granted this, making Saul king. Many of the kings of Israel were evil, being idolatrous like most Israelis, and Israel suffered. The Kingdom of Israel (the Kingdom of Yehovah) continued until Yehovah finally suspended it because of idolatry and violence against His land. The Babylonian captivity temporarily ended the kingdom.

The Babylonian Captivity

Israel again had every reason to acculturate in captivity, taking the languages, aspects of the cultures, the dress, the means of doing things, etc. The Israelis still remained segregated, however. Some Israelis returned back to the Land of Israel during the time of Ezra and Nehemiah. Some returning Levites had pagan wives with pagan religions, and they were commanded to divorce their wives, many complying. The Temple was rebuilt. Many Israelis chose to remain in Babylon until it was finally abandoned (due to a water shortage). Jews moved to many places besides Israel, taking on new languages and cultures. They were still segregated and distinguishable from their neighbours, however, never being able to fully acculturate as a group.

The Time of Hanukkah

The Prophets of Israel continued to prophesy after the Babylonian captivity, but then came a time of silence. Alexander the Great came to greatness, but died young. Four governments formed from his government, one being in Syria. One later leader of Syria was Antiochus Epiphanes who desired to conquer Egypt and everything between. Things went badly, and he began to concentrate on Israel. His goals included annihilating belief in the Torah, rooting out the God Yehovah from Israel, and making all Israelis Greek in beliefs and lifestyles. He set up gymnasia (where men exercised naked). Many Israelis cooperated, and some radicals refused. Confrontations over sacrifices led to Antiochus’ command that a pig be sacrificed on a Jewish altar of Yehovah. This started the Maccabean revolt that continued for years, and the events leading to Hanukkah (the Dedication of the Temple after it was recaptured from the Syrians). The Israelis were pressured to acculturate, and only a few were unwilling. The radicals used guerilla tactics, and the Syrians were finally driven out of the territory. The Israeli leadership made a pact with the Roman Empire, and Rome became a protectorate of Israel.

The Teaching of Yeshua

Yeshua taught that obedience to the Torah was the only way to please Yehovah. He pronounced a curse upon anyone who would teach the Israelis to violate even one Torah command:

Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the Torah or the Prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one Yod or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the Torah till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments and shall teach men so–he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. But whosoever shall do and teach, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Any Israeli identifying with the true Messiah of Israel must identify with the Torah. Yeshua taught against additions to the Torah, publicly disagreeing with some important religious leaders who maintained the importance of certain added regulations.

Deuteronomy 12:32 What thing soever I command you, observe to do it. Thou shalt not add to it nor diminish from it.

Perversions of the Teachings of Yeshua

Yeshua’s teachings were to and for Israel, the offspring and People of Jacob:

Matthew 15:24 But he [Yeshua] answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

While the writings of the Bible are useful for anyone desiring truth, they were not directed toward every race.

2 Timothy 3:14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them, 15and that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness 17that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Some texts are to individuals, some to Israel as a whole, and others are for other races. A Bible reader must not apply texts to the wrong persons or groups. This rule has been repeatedly violated throughout history. The group I have called Power Christians has repeatedly stolen and misapplied texts given to Israel, rooting Israel out. This is potent and patent antisemitism and perversion of the Scriptures. Many Gentiles who become Power Christians have sought to exclude Jews from texts and society unless the Jews fully join them and their version of the ‘body of Christ’. Their faith is as far from Biblical as Buddhism.

Why do so many churches seem to do so well, becoming rich and powerful, while having little to do with the Jews? Why do they preach as if Israel is a footnote in the plan of God? Why do they make Israel subservient to their own plans for expansion and evangelism? Power Christianity is a pagan religion. Yehovah is not stopping pagan religions. All folks do better with religions than without. Religions provide some ethics and morality without which society would become violent, and would self-destruct.

An Impossible Supposition

Suppose Israel had turned to Yeshua 2,000 years ago, and the message the Kingdom of Heaven had been grasped and believed. What would have happened to Israel’s identity? Would Israel have become Christian, losing its Jewish identity? The Kingdom would have been restored to Israel, as it will be after the Tribulation. Israel would have fully obeyed the Torah. Messiah would have saved Israel from all enemies. The other races would have seen Messiah’s works with fear. All Israel’s sufferings would have been averted.

Jewish identity has always been in danger, and has always been preserved. It would not have been stamped out had Israel believed in his Messiah.

Have Messianic Jewish Believers Identified with Power Christians?

The history of Jewish Believers in the real Yeshua has been one of suffering. They refused to conform to Power Christianity church es, irritating Power Christianity church leaders. Jewish Saints chose to identify with the God of Israel, Israel and Service Christians. They were considered rebels. During the Inquisition, Power Christians took and forced Jews to be baptized. They were restricted from celebrating Biblical Holy Days on the pain of death. Power Christians want to have power over the Jews. The same attitudes are present today, with the resolve to make Jews into their kind of Christians. Service Christians desire that Jewish individuals come to Yehovah by faith, and believe in the Biblical Yeshua.

Micah 6:8 He hath showed thee, O man, what is good and what Yehovah requireth of thee–even to do justice, and to love grace, and selflessly to walk with thy God!

Two types of Messianic Assemblies exist: Power Churches with Jewish trappings and the others that are very rare.

Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate! For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in at it. Because strait is the gate and narrow is the way which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Power Christianity is the popular western religion that is becoming less popular as Islam increases. Service Christianity has never been popular.

A very few pastors are Service Christians, noted by their love of the Biblically described Yehovah, for His Word and His fear, and for Israel. They speak the truth and only the truth. They do not spurn the Torah, but love all the Word of God. They teach that the Church’s goal is to serve Israel. They teach the ‘New Testament’ only in the light of the ‘Old’. They would teach Israel his responsibility to be a light to the Gentiles.

Messianic Jews and the Holy Days

One way for Jews to lose their identity is to not celebrate the Biblical Holy Days. A ‘Christian’ teaching is that when one becomes a Believer in Messiah Yeshua, the Holy Days and all the Law have been fulfilled making keeping them unnecessary and a burden. Paul’s writings are used to ‘prove’ this:

Colossians 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath [days]: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of the Messiah.

Hebrews 8:13 In that he saith, A new [covenant], he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

Ephesians 2:14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition [between us]; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, the law of commandments [contained] in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, [so] making peace;

None of these texts states that keeping the Torah or the Holy Days is unnecessary or a burden. Most of the Colossians receiving this letter were not Jewish. No non-Jewish person was given Israel’s Holy Days or Sabbaths. Why should they be responsible to do these upon believing in Messiah? The Hebrews text shows that the Torah has not disappeared yet, but that a New Covenant made with the House of Israel and the House of Judah is coming that will accomplish more than the first Covenant. The Ephesians text refers to the abolition of the enmity, not to the abolition of the Law of Commandments (unless Yeshua was mistaken). Other texts state that the Law of Moses will be the rule for Israel in the Millennium, and every race will be required to send emissaries to Israel for Succoth with destruction if they do not come:

Zechariah 14:16 And it shall come to pass, every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, Yehovah of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles. And it shall be, whoso will not come up of [all] the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, Yehovah of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain. And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that [have] no [rain]; there shall be the plague, wherewith Yehovah will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles. This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.

The Law is not ‘done away with’ during the Millennium.

While the Temple is not standing, no person alive can keep the Sabbaths. Animal sacrifices for all Israel are required for Sabbath keeping. The most Orthodox Jew cannot keep the Sabbath, since it is given to all Israel as a unit. If all Israel is not keeping the Sabbath, it isn’t being kept!

Anyone may rest on Shabbat for personal physical benefit, but the Sabbath is still being violated without all Israel participating. Daniel could not keep the Sabbath in captivity, yet the Prophet Ezekiel spoke of his righteousness. This does not mean that Daniel did not rest on the Sabbath. Daniel loved the Israeli Holy Days (since he loved the Word of God). The Law of Yehovah was part of him, but he had few rights as a slave. While he could not keep Torah, he kept what he could, and Yehovah saw. He never even considered disdaining the Torah of God, but mourned that its violation had caused Israel to be removed from the Land. Anyone with the mind of Yehovah will have the very same views and love for the Torah.

The Law will be restored:

Isaiah 42:21 Yehovah is well pleased for His righteousness’ sake. He will magnify the Torah and make [it] honourable.

No truly Messianic Jew will look badly upon the Torah or its Holy Days. Some have been taught that the Law is finished. If they love truth, they will reconsider. The Torah sacrifices have only been suspended. The Israelis still suffer consequences for Torah violations. Had it been abolished, its consequences would have also been.

The Holy Days speak of Messiah’s work. Why abolish them? One who loves Messiah will delight in them. It is unreasonable to say “I love Yeshua,” or “I love Jesus,” while speaking contempt for the Torah that Yeshua gave on Mount Sinai!

The Holy Days have distinguished the Jewish People from other peoples, and were given for this purpose (among others):

Exodus 31:13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that [ye] may know that I am Yehovah that doth sanctify you. Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth [any] work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to Yehovah: whosoever doeth [any] work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, [for] a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for [in] six days Yehovah made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

The Sabbath is a sign. Why eradicate a sign?

Any Jewish person who turns to the real Yeshua in faith will not abandon his Jewishness, but will cling to these God given treasures and responsibilities, gifts to be used to teach Gentiles. Being called from birth to be a servant to the Gentiles is humbling (thus Service Christianity, or better, Service Messianism).

Where Would The Jewish Identity be If the Jews Had Turned to Yeshua in Faith 2,000 Years Ago?

The Jewish identity would be very much intact. If a Jewish individual turns to Yeshua in faith today, he clings to the Scriptures, including all the Torah. Any Jewish person claiming faith in Yeshua, abandoning the Torah and claiming ‘freedom’, was just looking for an excuse to abandon Israel and responsibility. Such a person is an unbelieving traitor to Israel. That would be like a person saying “I have freedom in Christ! As a Buddhist, I had to be faithful to my wife. But now that I am a Christian, if I sin, I will be forgiven, so I can commit adultery and be forgiven!” The same is true for anyone showing contempt for the Torah, the Perfect Law of Liberty. The Torah is for liberty from sin and from the judgment of Yehovah, not liberty from righteousness.

The Torah is only a burden for two types of individuals: those who have followed the Torah plus the additions rooted in tradition and the rabbis, and those who have despised Yehovah’s way. It is no burden for those who delight in righteousness, but is instead a gift. It defines Yehovah’s and Israel’s character, and is Truth.

Must a Messianic Jewish Believer Keep the Torah?

NO PERSON can keep the Torah without the Temple or Tabernacle or priesthood. Yehovah has temporarily removed them from Israel because He is angry at Israel. All Israel will gladly keep it in the Millennium. In the meantime, every Jewish fearer of Messiah is obliged to know the Torah and to righteously live before Yehovah. He will reject Power Christianity’s paganisms.

What is a Jew? …Why I am a Jew.

By Arthur Glass
[1946 from the magazine Star of Hope]

“And Leah… bare a son, and she said, Now will I praise the LORD (Jehovah): Therefore she called his name Yehudah—(lit.) the LORD (Jehovah) be praised.” (Gen. 29:35).

Needless to say, there is much abysmal and inexcusable ignorance floating around this subject as to ‘what is a Jew?’ The sadly embarrassing thing, as well as the deep tragedy, is that the larger share of this ignorance is painfully prevalent with my people, the Jews themselves. Some say “The Jews are a race;” whereas others say “The Jews are a religion.” God’s word says both are wrong. The Jews are a people belonging to the Semitic race, whose religion should be, but most unfortunately now is not, that which was given by God through Moses, the Prophets and was finally confirmed in the New Testament according to Jeremiah 31:31-34.

To get the proper and correct understanding of the term Jew we must first go into the history of the Jews. The Jews are the only people in the world whose origin is divine, whose special mission is declared, and whose future is definite, assured and glorious. All other nations had their origin at the Tower of Babel as a result of sin (Gen. 11:1-9); but my people – the Jews – had a holy birth, a divine beginning (Gen. 12:13). For this reason they are indestructible, indigestible and unassimilatable. Pharaoh tried to drown the Jews and was drowned himself (Ex. 14:27, 28); Chaldeans tried to burn the Jews and were carbonized (Daniel 3:22). A few jealous Babylonian polititians tried to feed Daniel to hungry lions and were instead devoured by the same lions (Daniel 6:24). Haman tried to hang Mordecai the Jew and was himself hanged on the very gallows he had built for Mordecai (Esther 7:9,10). When Germany tried to destroy the Jews they found their own country destroyed and devastated and suffered the most disastrous defeat of any nation in the history of the world. The Jew has proven to be cork in the water, asbestos in the fire, marble in the lions’ teeth, and rubber at the end of a hangman’s noose. He has always lived to stand at the grave of his persecutors and has always been a witnessing signator to their death warrants. Truly, the Scripture is most true which says that “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper” (Isa. 54:17).

Now the term Jew is not the proper term for my people, as that represents only the tribe of Judah and Benjamin who stuck by the House of David when the other 10 tribes seceded and formed the Northern Kingdom (I Kings 12:20,21). “Hebrew” or “Israelite” is really the correct form; but since Judah and their confederates were the most prominent and most influential, all Israel now goes by the term Jews. Every Jew is a Hebrew or an Israelite, but not every Hebrew or Israelite is a Jew. But all three terms – Hebrew, Israelite, Jew – are spiritual terms with holy and remarkably deep significances.

The first historical name given to my people is Hebrews, because they are the descendants of Abraham the Hebrew. This name is first mentioned in Gen. 14:13 and applied to Abraham. He is there called HA-IVRI – the Hebrew. HA-IVRI means The–Crosser–Over, because our father Abraham crossed the river Euphrates at the call of God, and that river acted as a separation between him and the world of sin idolatry and spiritual ignorant. God called Abraham to leave his country, his kindred, and his father’s house to go into an unknown land through unmapped arid uncharted paths. Abraham forsook the Chaldean capital of Ur and said good bye to the world of godless civilization and glamour, riches and worldly possession and reputation. He left its commerce, ambitions and allurements, and went after God, crossing the river and burning his bridges behind him. When he went into an unknown land and faced an unknown future, he trusted God for everything, “And he believed in the LORD, and He counted it to him for righteousness” (Gen. 15:6). Thus Abraham became the friend of God (2 Chron. 20:7, Isa. 41:8). Abraham also built altars, “and called upon the name of the LORD” (Gen. 12:8) and let every one know that he was a real Hebrew, a Crosser–over. Now, my Jewish friend, are you a real Hebrew, a real Crosser–over? Have you left the world of sin behind you like Abraham whom you claim as your father? or are you shackled by the chains of worldly desires and ambitions? Do you make the God of Abraham known and loved as Abraham the Hebrew did? If you are not what Abraham was, then you have no right to call yourself a Jew. You are just a presumptuous pretender without any justifiable claim to this very exalted title of Jew.

Now Joseph claimed to be “of the land of the Hebrews” (Gen. 40:15), and the word Hebrew next appears in Ex. 1:15,16,19; and God calls Himself “The LORD God of the Hebrews” in Ex. 7:16; and that same term is used even in I Sam. 4:6; 9; 29:3. It is also used in Jer. 34:9, 14; and the last time the word Hebrew appears in the Old Testament is in Jonah 1:9. In the New Testament it is still used to denote Jews as can be seen from Acts 6:1, 2 Cor. 11:12, Phil. 3:5, while the language of the Jews is in the New Testament called “Hebrew” (Luke 28:38; John 5:2; 19:13,17,20; Acts 21:40; 22:2; 26:14; Rev. 9:11; 16:16).

The next term is Israel. This was given to our father Jacob by God in Gen. 32:28, and it means The-Prince-of-God. What a wonderful name! What a glorious significance! And this name came only after repentance, after Jacob had confessed to God and said, “I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth which thou hast showed unto thy servant.” (Gen. 32:10). So again, my so-called Jewish friend, we ask you: “Are you a real Israelite? Have you repented before God and become a real child of Israel? Do you have ‘power with God and with men?’” (Gen. 32:27). If not, you are no more a Jew than is the heathen Hottentot. You are just a cheap imitation, with no part in Israel at all.

The descendants of Abraham through Jacob are called the children of Israel and Israel times without number throughout the Old and New Testaments, so we cannot refer to any special references, since their number “is legion.”

The last and glorious name is Jew from the Hebrew word Yehudi, which means the Praiser-of-Jehovah. This word is derived from the word Judah or the Hebrew Yehudah, which we have already explained and given its historical origin. This is supposed to mainly refer to the descendants of Judah. The word Jews is first mentioned in II Kings 16:6, whereas the words Jew and Jews are used freely in the Books of Esther, Ezra and Nehemiah. Jeremiah also uses that term, and we also find it in Daniel. But in the New Testament times the term Jews was used to designate any descendant of Abraham regardless of tribal origin. Now all Israel is known as Jews and very significantly so: God wants the Jew to be reminded that as a-crosser-over and Prince-of-God, he should be a real Yehudi – A-Praiser-of-God.

So finally we ask you who call yourselves Jews, are you Praisers-of-God? Do men praise God for you and because of you when they see you? Do the Gentiles who know you fall in love with God and turn to Him because of you as God meant it to be?” If not, then you are a liability to the cause of Judaism and a reproach to the name of the God in whom you claim to believe but whom you so woefully deny by not being a real Jew according to God’s standard; so how do you dare call yourself a Jew?

This brings us to ask, “What mission of the Jews?” Well we needn’t go to Edmond Flegg the French Jew to find that out; we go to the Holy Word of a Holy God. In Gen. 22:18 (and Jews read this daily) God says to Abraham, “in thee shall all the nations of the earth be blessed.” So you as a Jew are to be a blessing to every nation where you may happen to be. Is that you? Are you a blessing? If not, you are no Jew according to God.

In Exodus 19:5 and 6 God says to us: “Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then shall ye be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people, for all the earth is mine; and ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation.” Do you obey God’s voice? Do you keep His covenant? Are you God’s priest? And what is really a priest? – not a man with an inverted collar, but a person who stands between God and man, one who represents God to men and presents men to God. Is this you? Are you God’s priest? Are you a holy person dedicated to the service of your God? If not, then don’t insult God or human intelligence by calling yourself what you are not – a Jew.

In Psalm 105 (and our people read this daily too) God says, “O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon His name make known His deeds among the people.” How do you show your gratitude to God? Do you call upon His name? Do you make known God’s deeds among the Gentile people? If not, then how on earth do you have the gall and the brazenness to call yourself a Jew?

In Isa. 43:10 God says to my people, “Ye are my witnesses.” Are you? Do you witness for God? If you don’t, then what makes you think you’re a Jew? God further says in verse 21 of the same chapter, “This people have I formed for myself, they shall show forth my praise.” Do you show forth God’s praise? And if not, why not? And if not, your claim to being a Jew is worse than criminal, because it is blasphemous mockery. Being a Jew, according to what we now see, has degenerated to nothing more than social functions and race pride and race worship.

We have shown from the Word of God and from rational reason, sound logic and common sense that a Jew is not one so by race as by grace; not he who has a Jewish nose is a Jew, but he who has a Jewish heart—a heart for God (Deut. 5:29; Ezek.. 36:26, 27); and not one who has a name such as Goldberg or Cohen, but one whose name is written and recorded in God’s Book of Life in heaven (Daniel 12:1).

Now we come to the second part of our theme: Why I am a Jew?

1. I AM A JEW because by God’s sovereign grace and divine choice I was born one, and I am glad of it, because I am kin to the greatest persons that ever walked this poor earth. Among my relatives I count such as Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Samuel, David and the Prophets, the Apostles, the first Martyrs, all of the writers of the Holy Bible, and, best of all, the Messiah and Redeemer of Israel and Savior of the world Himself, Who “…took not on him the nature of angels, but He took on Him the seed of Abraham.” (Heb. 2:16).

2. I AM A JEW because I believe with all my heart in the God of my fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the Creator, Ruler and Sustainer of heaven and earth.

3. I AM A JEW because I believe the WORD of GOD and base my belief not on what a French Jew has to say in a secular book, but on what Thus Saith the LORD God of Israel, and I “Seek . . . out of the Book of the LORD, and read” (Isa. 34:16). I fully subscribe to the article in the 13 Articles of the Jewish Confessional of Faith: “I believe with a perfect faith that all the words of the Prophets are true.”

4. I AM A JEW because I have accepted the Messiah of Israel of Whom Moses in the Torah (the Law) and the Prophets did write, the One Who came to be God’s final and Supreme sacrifice for sin and substitute for us all (Isa. 53:5, 6, 8), the One Who came to be Israel’s Redeemer and Saviour of the world (Isa. 59:29; 49:6).

5. I AM A JEW because I do not trust in my race, religion nor righteousness to save me from my sin and take me to heaven, but in the grace of God through our Messiah Yeshua Ha-Moshiach (Jesus Christ) Who died on Golgotha as God’s appointed Lamb for the sin of Israel as well as for the sin of the whole world, as it is written: “for the transgression of my people was he stricken,” and, “The LORD hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all” (Isa. 53:8, 6).

6. I AM A JEW because I believe in the bodily resurrection of the Messiah as well as of all the dead according to the hope of my forefathers and according to the Word of God as is revealed in His Book: “For thou wilt not leave my soul in Sheol; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One (the Messiah) to see corruption…. And many of them who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt” (Psalm 16 :10; Daniel 12:2 ).

7. I AM A JEW because I try by God’s grace and help to live according to His commandments and to make His will, His way and His word known to others – “to the Jew first and also to the Greek” (Romans 1:16).

8. Furthermore I AM A JEW because I not only believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and of Moses and the Prophets, but also because I believe in the soon and Second Coming of our Messiah to redeem Israel and give them back their (entire) land promised by God to our fathers, as it is written by the Prophets: “And the Redeemer shall come to Zion. and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD . . . Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. In His days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely; and this is His name whereby He shall be called: YEHOVAHTZIDKENU — THE LORD (JEHOVAH) OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS” (Isa. 59:20; Jeremiah 23:5, 6).

9. Then I AM A JEW because I believe that in this life only is it given to man to prepare for eternity; and if one leaves this life unprepared it will be forever too late to do anything for himself nor will anyone ever be able to do anything for the one who left this world unprepared, as it is written: “Prepare to meet thy God, O Israel….” “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Amos 4:14; Heb. 9:27).

10. And lastly I AM A JEW because I believe that there is a judgment to come when God is going to judge all, and all will have to give account of themselves before Him, as it is written in Psalm 96:13: “Before the LORD, for HE cometh, for HE cometh to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with righteousness (and the Messiah is called Jehovah our righteousness), and the people with His Truth (and the Messiah said of Himself, ‘I am the way, the Truth, and the life’).” And the Word of God also says: “Because He (God) hath appointed a day, in which He will judge the world in righteousness by that Man (the Messiah) Whom He hath ordained; where He hath given assurance unto all men, in that He hath raised Him from the dead” (Acts 17:31).

Diluting Jewishness by Racial Mixing

Diluting Jewishness by Racial Mixing

Can Jewishness be diluted by intermarrying with other races? Can a person be 1/16th Jewish? Adolph Hitler thought so, and he employed educated genetics experts to ‘solve’ the ‘Jewish Question’.

Neither Hitler nor his scientists knew the Bible. They assumed that the gene that determines race could be diluted. The Bible teaches otherwise, telling of 144,000 Israelis from 11 tribes (one tribe has double the amount, another is not listed):

Revelation 7:4 And I heard the number of them who were sealed. And there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.

This event will occur after many centuries of intermarriages. How can they be preserved without interbreeding that makes for terrible genetic consequences?

Consider also the following text:

Genesis 10:5 By these were the isles of the races divided in their lands—every one after his tongue after their families in their races.

The races are established. If they could be diluted, races would not now exist. For example, if a person could be 1/16 Hungarian, 1/16 French, 1/16 Welch, 1/16 German, 1/16 Scandinavian, 1/16 Scottish, etc. until 16 races were specified, this person would not be of any race, each race being too small a portion of his makeup.

Consider the alternative. Every human (normally) has two sets of genes. One set is obtained from the person’s mother, the other from the person’s father. Now, suppose a Jewish man of the tribe of Dan marries a Canaanite woman (I do not recommend this). Suppose a Jewish woman also from the tribe of Dan marries a Canaanite man. They have children, one being a son, the other a daughter. Suppose those children marry and have children. The following shows all the possible genetic racial offspring (according to what I am proposing), where ‘C’ represents the Canaanite gene and ‘D’ represents the Tribe of Dan gene:

The Canaanite/Dan woman who has a child with a Canaanite/Dan man can produce a child who is ‘CC’ (pure Canaanite), ‘CD’ (another Canaanite/Dan combination), ‘DC’ (another Canaanite/Dan combination) and ‘DD’ (pure tribe of Dan).

If you followed that, suppose that the darker (yellow) combination is the result: ‘CD’ (which is Canaanite/Dan). This grows up and has a child with a pure-blood German. The following shows the potential combinations (where ‘G’ is for the German gene:

This can result in a ‘CG’ (Canaanite/German) offspring or a ‘DG’ (Tribe of Dan/German) offspring.

Now, suppose the result is a Tribe-of-Dan/German offspring (shaded in yellow), and suppose this person grows and has a child with an Ethiopian/Lebanese person. The following combinations can result:

The offspring could be Tribe-of-Dan/Ethiopian, Tribe-of-Dan/Lebanese, German/Ethiopian or German/Lebanese. Suppose it is the Tribe-of-Dan/Lebanese combination (shaded in yellow). Suppose this person grows and has a child with a person who is a combination of Russian and Tribe of Dan (from another very distant lineage). Any of the following offspring could come:

The offspring could be Tribe-of-Dan/Russian, Tribe-of-Dan/Tribe-of-Dan (thus, pure Tribe of Dan), Lebanese/Russian or Lebanese/Tribe-of-Dan. If the offspring is purely Tribe of Dan, these combinations (that could be extended over thirty centuries) would preserve the Tribe of Dan in a pure way, while making sure that inbreeding does not harm the offspring. The person might have blue eyes, blond, curly hair, Egyptian features, a Russian height, etc., yet still be racially purely from the Tribe of Dan.

Why Folks Hate the Jews

Jews:

Why So Many Folks Hate the Jews

And

Who are the Jews in John?

Introduction

Why are the Jews hated? The Bible invests the entire plan of God in them, and the Bible holds them responsible for their being no peace on earth until they do right.

Yehovah has dispersed them among the races, warning that they will only be able to stay in any place for a short time, and then they must go elsewhere. Thus, the races see them as a scourge in their midst, as driven from other places, and transient, and as potential competition.

Common Ideas about the Jews

Many folks who hate the Jews don’t know why they hate them. They have been taught that the Jews are evil, and affect the world for self-centered interests that destroy countries and cultures. Those who have investment in Islam have a different for hating the Jews (if they hate them at all). There is no consensus regarding the Jews. There are always folks in all countries who don’t hate them, and would appreciate doing business with them.

A Quick History of the Jews

The Bible explains how the Jews came about. The God of the Bible produced this people specially using miracles and using non-Jewish groups to bring about the Jews. They came out of Egypt and from slavery with great wealth. They soon were embroiled with the Palestinians (Philistines). Their history is one of violence and of great peace. Their kingdom became very strong and very great, then very weak and finally gone. They were given a land in the most central and most important part of the planet: the Middle East, between three of the most active continents in the world. They were also given a Torah, a Teaching that was assigned specifically to them that had promises of good if they complied, and guarantees of the most terrible destructions to them if they didn’t comply. They were also given another guarantee: that they would continue to exist to the end of the planet, and that this land would be theirs once they did right according to the Torah (the first six books of the Bible).

This Torah was another reason for great jealousy, since there is no evidence that the God of the Bible gave a Covenant of this nature to any other group. The Jews were given the assignment and responsibility to carry, teach and live out the ‘oracles’ of God, those things that God gave to the world through prophets or directly.

Romans 3:1 What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? 2Much every way! Chiefly, because the oracles of God were committed unto them.

The Talmud

The Jews developed their own set of teachings from rabbis called the Talmud. This compendium of opinions of the rabbis was viewed by large groups of Jews as being equal with the Scriptures in previous centuries. Jews who studied these writings became very good at law and at memorization. Thus, they excelled in scholarship and in medicine, in law and in politics, as well as in the arts. Their numbers were small compared to the surrounding races, but their influence and discoveries were proportionately very large. This also made for jealousy.

The Jews under Islam

The Jews used to prosper under Islam, and they did far better under Islam when Spain was occupied by the Sultans than they did at any other time for centuries. Islam treated the Jews very well, and they achieved high positions. This also made the Europeans very angry at the Jews and very jealous. When Islamic rulers were driven from Spain, the Jews who stayed behind were hated and were mistreated.

Restrictions on Jewish Professions

During previous centuries, Jews were not allowed to be in certain professions held by religious groups among the Gentiles, but they could lend money. Kings borrowed. Kings owed. Kings wanted to cancel their debts to the Jews; they found the easiest way was to accuse them and kill them, and drive them out. This practice occurred many times.

Jewish Integration

Jewish folks have had to stick together because of history and anti-Semitism. Thus, even when they integrate into societies, that integration doesn’t usually last. They become ousted after so much time. Thus, Jewish integration is only temporary, and again the Jews stand out when they are forced out.

Any group that appears different from other groups will be targeted. This is one reason.

Jewish Monetary Success

Another reason is that the Jews appear to be very monetarily successful, and to control the means of production and exchange. This doesn’t have to be true to appear to be true. Jewish folks reside all over the world, and Jews do tend to trade with Jews—but not exclusively. Yet, this isn’t what others see; they think that the Jews have connections and can escape from trouble in the markets by using these connections. Gentiles who feel that they don’t have the same connections resent Jews for having them (even if they don’t).

This idea of the International Jew goes into the area of patriotism. Jews are views as not having any true allegiance to any country, and will leave a country if that country falters. Thus, others who are invested in the country see the Jews as quick traitors if everything goes down. This is not the case, but again, truth isn’t the issue; perception is.

All this doesn’t really explain why the Jews are hated. It goes beyond this, and it goes beyond literature that has been around for centuries accusing the Jews of an international plot to strip the Gentiles of wealth.

It goes to the Bible.

Why Some of Western Civilizations Hate the Jews

The Jews are a minority. Their presence in cultures is usually very obvious. Some Jews mix, while other Jews remain detached from cultures. They tend to group among themselves, and they have traditions that don’t match the surrounding cultures. This alone tends to present a problem among many who value conforming to a ‘norm’.

Every culture tends to hold certain values, and also tends to not value other things. Jews themselves are not a consistent culture. Yet, they appear to be to most onlookers. There are the very Orthodox Jews with strange clothing and patterns of behavior, and there are liberal Jews who do what the surrounding Gentiles do. Yet, even the liberal Jews tend to be different, and have different connections. This presents the problem of jealousy.

Why Many of Middle Eastern Groups Hate the Jews: Holy Sites

Modern Islam has its focus on the holy sites, not on Islamic history. Thus, the Jews must be driven into the sea in order to redeem Jerusalem from ‘the Crusaders.’ Many in the Middle East see the Crusades as continuing to this day.

As long as any other group outside of Islam dominates over any Islamic holy site, followers of Islam are taught that the deity of Islam is angry because of the liberalism found among followers of Islam. Thus, such domination is a sign from ‘God’ to turn to fundamental Islam; then the deity will give success to throw infidels out of the holy cities.

Modern Christian Churches

Modern Christian churches of every variety have the same difficulty when viewing the Jews. There is this recognition of the importance of Israel and the Jews, and there is the same jealousy. Some churches are for Israel; some will not discuss Israel. Some separate ‘Israel’ from ‘Jews’, stating that Israel is good, the Jews are accursed. Some hate the Jews and Israel, and desire Israel’s annihilation. All these groups claim to be fervent followers of Christianity.

Messianic Jews

There is another set of groups called Messianic Jews. They consist of mainly Jewish persons who claim to believe in Jesus or Yeshua as the Messiah. They do the same practices found among Christian groups by replacing Biblical Israel with themselves as if they are the focus of the promises of God in the Bible, and the apple of God’s eye. They usually are very fervent for Israel and for the Jews, yet they theologically distance themselves from the Jews by celebrating their own supposed salvations even while Israel is always in jeopardy. They also twist Scriptures to show themselves as important.

The Nazis

The Nazis viewed themselves as a continuance of Arians, and the Arians are supposedly from Atlantis. Arianism necessarily hates the Jews and must destroy them. All this has to do with the occult and the view that ‘God is with us’ (placed on the belts of the Nazi SS troupers). If ‘God is with us,’ God can’t be with them.

Jew-Hating Demons

Humans are not the only readers and hearers of the Bible, and they are not the only ones who misread it. The Bible speaks of demons, angels who rebelled. They, according to the Bible, also will be locked up and tormented once the Jews are righteous. If the Jews are expunged from the earth, the demons won’t be. Thus, a good portion of the hatred of Jews is supernatural. (The Jews can only be expunged from the earth if the Bible isn’t true.)

Centrality of the Jews in the Bible

Many groups in this world see the Bible as the central book of their faiths. They read about the Jews in the Bible if they read the Bible at all. (Few read the Bible.) The Bible speaks of the Jews in very negative terms in some texts. It also speaks of the Jews in very positive terms in other texts. Both present a problem to readers. If the Jews are as bad as the Bible portrays them, they are a scourge. Some therefore believe that they do God a favor by diminishing the Jews in society and even by getting rid of them. If the Jews are as important as the Bible portrays them, some readers are very jealous; they desire to be the center of God’s plan, and the Jews are in the way. Therefore, they cling to a theology that replaces the Jews with themselves (i.e., The Church). The problem is that the Jews are still around. Their being around tends to ruin the replacement theology. Thus, they speak out against the Jews to convince themselves and others that God is truly through with them, and has chosen the faithful and Godly Gentiles in their groups to replace the Jews.

The Bible Follows the Jews

Wherever the Jews go, regardless of how liberal the Jews are, the Bible goes with them—the very book that both accuses them and shows how important they are in the plan of the God of the Bible. While the Jews do not tend to carry the ‘New Testament’ with them, but only the ‘Old Testament’ (the Tenach), the ‘New Testament’ follows them wherever they go. This volume seems even more accusatory when read by those who have not known the ‘Old Testament’. Anti-Semitism is propagated more from the book of John in the ‘New Testament’ than from any other source because it refers to ‘the Jews’ as a violent and evil group and as killers of Christ. A reader who knows the ‘Old Testament’ and who reads the book of John carefully can see that Jesus was dealing with the Jews all of the time, and that the group called ‘the Jews’ in John (and in other books) must be a subgroup. Such careful readers are rare.

The ‘New Testament’

The ‘New Testament’ is the strongest in confirming the centrality of the Jews in the plan of God, in the resurrection of the dead, and in the return of Jesus (Yeshua) to reign. It states that He will return to the Jews and reign among them and over the world.

The Middle Eastern Groups are predominantly Moslem in faith or in perspective. Islam has several holy places, the second most holy place being Jerusalem. In Islamic teaching, any holy place like that must be controlled by Islamic followers. If it isn’t, it is because the deity of Islam is angry with the Islamic peoples for being too liberal. Thus, they must do everything in life or death to reclaim those holy sites. Since the Jews are occupying Jerusalem, the Jews must be hated and expunged in order to bring the faithful back to Islam, and all Islamic countries must turn from liberalism and westernism.

Peace on Earth

Since the Bible places peace of earth with the Jews such that there will be no lasting peace until the Jews are entirely righteous, this also makes for jealousy. The Jews appear so important in the Bible, that it is as if God views them much higher than the other races. (While this isn’t the case, misreading the Bible easily derives this conclusion.)

A Misunderstanding about the Jews in the Book of John

Many readers misunderstand the term Jews in the New Testament. They think that the term always refers to all the Jewish folks when it does not. Consider the following texts with me. I will explain things about each text:

John 2:13 And the Jews’ Passover was at hand.

This sounds general. Yet, who else had a Passover? If it were for all the Israelis, why mention it since the entire scene is about the Israelis/Jews?

John 2:18 Then the Jews answered and said unto Him, “What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?”

Did all the Jews answer Him, or did a group answer Him?

John 3:1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.

Was he a ruler over all the Jews (like Herod), or was he a ruler of a group of Jews?

John 3:25 Then there arose a question between some of John’s disciples and the Jews about purifying.

Weren’t John’s disciples Jewish? Were they Latvian or Chinese? Were they Hungarian or Australian?

John 5:16 And therefore the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.

Did all the Jews want to kill Him? Most appreciated what He did and said, even if they didn’t understand what He said.

John 5:18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.

I learned from these texts that ‘the Jews’ were a sect, a small group of the entire Jewish population. Thus, I began calling them by their Hebrew name: the Yehudeem to distinguish them from the rest of the Israelis/Jews in these texts.

The following are what I discerned by carefully reading Matthew through John, and other places in the ‘New Testament.’ You may certainly challenge them, but at least consider them.

The Yehudeem:

  • Were a sect of the general Jewish population
  • Were very strict, hoping that the God of Israel would give Israel freedom from occupying pagans (like the Romans) if the Israelis would strictly adhere to the Torah (the first five books of the Bible)
  • Made rules to help keep the Israelis within the Torah, but by doing so violated the Torah (by adding to it)
  • Felt their rules to be from God
  • Consisted of two types of persons: one type that greatly desired to do right according to the Tenach (the entire Old Testament), and another type that desired to have power in the Jewish communities, not caring about personally doing right, but being the ‘morality police’ over others
  • Had the power to excommunicate other Israelis from the synagogues, thus making it impossible for them to do business with other persons under the influence of the Yehudeem within Israel; this power could be used for benefit to Israel or for personal vengeance
  • Had little or no sway over the Israelis who were not part of the Yehudeem (and who didn’t care about excommunication)
  • Were of two types: one type was very protective of their own positions, and didn’t like outsiders who didn’t come up through the ranks having influences over their followers; the other type wasn’t protective of anything but the Truth, and was glad to hear of anyone who worked to bring righteousness to Israel
  • Were from any of the twelve tribes (or were proselytes of the Gentiles who turned to Judaism), and therefore were not strictly of the tribe of Judah
  • Could also be Pharisees, another group that consisted of some who most definitely believed in real righteousness in Israel and in personal righteousness, and worked for that, and of some who sought power over others, wanting to ‘boss folks around’ and to be viewed well by those in high positions in the religious community
  •  Consisted of a very few who definitely wanted to kill Yeshua and of others who very much delighted in His teachings, recognizing Him to be one truly sent directly from God and who had the words of life. The Yehudeem also consisted of some in lower-ranking positions who didn’t know what to believe regarding Yeshua, and who were torn.

The above descriptions of the Yehudeem may seem very ‘black and white’ in the descriptions, but there were folks who were in between, also, as I mentioned in the last bullet.

Modern Christianity does not teach that the Yehudeem (‘the Jews’) formed a small sect of the Israelis. Instead, many are taught to read the book of John as the first book of the Bible they will ever read. They will see many bad things regarding ‘the Jews,’ and will either reaffirm their feelings against the Jews or will form new feelings of them being enemies as if it refers to all Jews.

If they were to start with Genesis, they would probably figure some things out (if they cared for Truth). They would learn that the Jews are very central to Yehovah’s plan for all the ages, etc. Starting in John, however, will give ignorant readers a terrible impression of the Jews. Even if they figure out that ‘the Jews’ are a sect, they may still think that this sect was all bad. That was not the case. There were a few powerful ‘bad apples.’ There were some powerful good guys. There were followers of both types who were very loyal to their leaders, right or wrong. This is the same with groups today.
