Angels-Did Angels Marry Women?

Did Angels Marry Women?

Introduction

Some believe that angels married women in Genesis 6, while others do not believe this. This question is easily answered from the text.

The Text

Genesis 6:1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, 2That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they are fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. 3And Yehovah said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. 4There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare [children] to them, the same [became] mighty men which are of old, men of renown. 5And God saw that the wickedness of man is great in the earth, and every imagination of the thoughts of his heart is only evil continually.

The literal rendering of this text is as follows:

Genesis 6:1 And it was when the adam began to multiply upon the faces of the soil and daughters were born to them. 2And the sons of the Gods saw the daughters of the adam that they are good. And they took for themselves wives from all which they chose. 3And Yehovah said, “My spirit shall not strive with adam to hidden-time in that he indeed is flesh. And his days shall be an hundred and twenty year[s]. 4The fallen ones were in the land in those days. And also after that when the sons of the Gods came unto the daughters of the adam and they shall be born to them. They are the valiant-ones who from hidden-time are men of the Name. 5And God saw that the wickedness of man is great in the earth, and every imagination of the thoughts of his heart is only evil daily.

The literal rendering will give us much information. The description starts out referring to the adam, which can and often does refer to the race of man. He began to multiply upon the faces of the soil (all over the place). Daughters were born to them. Thus there is a time of rapid reproduction.

The term Gods is usually plural. It is the Hebrew Elohim, which means Gods, and which takes a singular verb. It is used in exactly the same form, however, when referring to false gods, though it is modified with a plural adjective. While God is one, He is every true God that there is; any other god is a false god.

Who are these sons of the Gods? The following texts are the only ones using the expression sons of God in the Bible:

Genesis 6:2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they are fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

Genesis 6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare [children] to them, the same [became] mighty men which are of old, men of renown.

Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before Yehovah, and Satan came also among them.

Job 2:1 Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before Yehovah, and Satan came also among them to present himself before Yehovah.
Job 38:7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, to them that believe on his name:

Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Romans 8:19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

Philippians 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

1 John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. 2Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

From these texts, scholars have figured that the “Old Testament” usage is for angels, while the “New Testament” usage is for those who are born of God. Therefore they concluded that the expression in Genesis must refer to angels. The term son of God is used 47 times, and always refers either to deity or to the Messiah Himself.

Are Angels Able to Reproduce?

Matthew 22:29 Yeshua answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. 30For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

Mark 12:24 And Yeshua answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God? 25For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels which are in heaven.

These two texts prove that angels are not capable of marrying or being given in marriage. The Bible also teaches,

Genesis 1:12 And the earth brought forth grass, herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed is in itself, after his kind: and God saw that [it was] good… 20And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. 21And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that [it was] good… 24And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. 25And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that [it was] good.

Every creature bears seed after its own kind. This is true of every reproductive creature which was originally created. Angelic reproduction is not Biblical. Angels were created before these events. There is no indication that angels have ever born children or have had such a capability. In mythology, angelic beings and gods and goddesses can have children. The Bible is not a book of myths. If male angels had the capability to marry female humans, female angels (like Sheol) would be able to marry male humans. And female angels could have babies with male angels.

The term sons of God shows the relationship between the word the word son in Hebrew (ben) and the word build (banah). Yehovah has built these beings, and he also builds those who are human and who become the sons of God. The difference is described in the Bible. Humans can have salvation, whereas angels either remained loyal or refused to do so at the eternal consequence.

Who are the Giants?

The literal rendering shows that the word giants is actually fallen ones ( with different dotting is , fallen ones, and the dottings are not inspired or infallible). There is no indication that they were giants, though they may have been largely built. The word is directly from the Hebrew for fall. These fallen ones, ones who had nothing to do with Yehovah, came about as the verse described: “the sons of the Gods came unto the daughters of the adam, and they shall be born to them.” There was an intermarriage between male saints (sons of God) and female non-saints (daughters of the adam). The children tend to the faith of the mother much more than the faith of the father since she nourishes them and is with them more of the time, and her faith has a weaker standard. The result was a decline in the proportion of those in faith (just as there is today) until finally only one man on the face of the earth (Noah) was Godly.

Who are the Mighty Men, the Men of Renown?

A literal rendering again makes this clear: “They (the sons of God) are the valiant-ones who are men of the Name from Hider.” The term men of the Name indicates that they identified with the Name, the Name Yehovah. Texts before this stated, “then men began to call upon the Name Yehovah” (Genesis 4:26b). Thus they were men of the Name.

Another Detail

If angels had children via women, there is no reason to believe that these children would be capable of death, and certainly not death by a flood. The Scriptures refer to men dying, never angels. How strange it would be for this assault by Yehovah to be described in detail without one word regarding angels. Yehovah’s anger is toward man, not toward any angelic hosts.

Angels and Human Forms

Angels often appear in human forms. This does not mean that they have sexual equipment, livers, intestines, kidneys or a gall bladder. Angels can look like other creatures, but Yehovah must equip them in this way in order for them to sexually behave like these creatures. There is no indication of this being done.
I mentioned about a female angel. The text for this is found in Isaiah:

Isaiah 5:14 Therefore Sheol hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure. And their glory and their multitude and their pomp and he who rejoices shall descend into her.

Sheol is an angel as seen in the Book of the Revelation:

Revelation 6:8 And I looked. And behold, a pale horse. And his name that sat on him was Death. And Hades (Greek for Sheol) followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth to kill with sword and with hunger and with death and with the beasts of the earth.
Genders do not denote sexually reproductive possibilities in the Hebrew. All nouns carry a masculine or feminine gender. A hammer is of one gender, and it cannot reproduce.

Conclusion

There is no evidence of a half angelic half human creature, nor of the judgment of such a creature. This is strictly a mythological, occultic and extrabiblical belief, though widely held. There is more possibility for a human to have sexual intercourse with an ape and produce a half-human half-ape creature, and this is not possible because of the genetics. There is no indication that spirits (which angels are) have any genes (which are physical).
