Book of Life

Introduction

I was surprised to find that the Book of Life and the Lamb’s Book of Life were shrouded in mystery in the Bible. I therefore endeavoured to solve the mystery regarding the books by considering terms used to describe them.

The possibility of a name being deleted from the Lamb’s Book of Life would spell no security for the true Believer. The lack of such a possibility would spell assurance for the true Saint.

I will provide a definition, then I will show Scriptural quotations dealing with blotting. The books will be covered after these.

Definition

The Hebrew word that has everything to do with removal from the book (or books) of life is Macah, meaning to strike, wipe out, or away; to blot out, destroy.

Literal Texts

The following are texts taken literally from the Hebrew:

Deuteronomy 25:19 And he shall be: When Yehovah thine Elohim gives thee rest from all thine enemies round about in the land that Yehovah thine Elohim gave to thee, an inheritance to possess her, thou shalt blot the remembrance of Amelek from under the heavens. Don’t forget!

These citations showed blotting. Since the Book of Yehovah is already written, all the names of those who have been and will be conceived must already be entered into the Book.

Observations

  • There is no record of names being entered into the books.
  • Events are possibly entered, or may have already been entered in some books.
  • Only deletions of names are described.
  • Those who are deleted are therefore permanently deleted.
  • Every person who will live was entered into the Book of the Living before the foundation of the earth.
  • If the Book of Life and the Lamb’s Book of Life are the same, there are unbelievers in the Lamb’s Book of Life (contrary to Scriptures).
  • Every person who dies in unbelief is blotted out of the Book of the Living.
  • Every person who will accept the free gift of Salvation was entered into the Lamb’s Book of Life before the earth was founded.
  • Blotting can only be done from the Book of the Living.
  • The record of the Lamb’s Book of Life (in which Book is found all who will be born of God) cannot be altered (else God didn’t know events would occur the way they did, negating His omniscience and violating His sovereignty).
  • The two books will totally agree in content in the end.
  • The True Saint, then, certainly will remain in the Lamb’s Book of the Living, and the non-saint will not acquire entry into it.
  • No proof of the predestination of the salvational status of any group or of any individual is found using these particular passages. What is proved is that the true Saint is secure, and the non-saint is not secure.
